How we make money
Most solar websites make money by selling your name and phone number to installers, or by charging installers to appear in "best of" lists. We don't do either.
What we never do
- We never take money from solar installers, manufacturers, lenders, leasing companies or lead buyers.
- We never ask for your phone number or email to see results, and we don't sell or share data.
- We never rank installers or products for payment. Directory order comes from public records and the sort you choose.
- We never change a verdict, an assumption or a ranking because of how we earn money.
How we earn
Amazon affiliate links. On a few pages, mostly when solar isn't worth it for someone, we suggest cheaper ways to cut your bill or get backup power, such as energy monitors, smart thermostats, weatherstripping and portable power stations. These link to Amazon. If you buy something, Amazon pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Those links are marked where they appear, use rel="sponsored", and are chosen for being genuinely useful, not for commission rates. They appear only on pages where they help, and never inside the calculator's numbers.
Why this matters
When a site earns more if you buy solar, it has a reason to make solar look better than it is. We earn nothing when you buy solar, which lets us say "not worth it" when that's true.
