Solar lenders and lease companies

The company that finances your system can matter as much as the installer. Several big solar lenders and leasing companies have failed since 2023. Here's what public complaint data and reporting show.

Complaints filed with the CFPB

Complaints in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau database naming each company, through October 2026. Counts are not adjusted for how many loans each company has, so compare trends and issues rather than raw totals.

Questions

What happens to my solar loan if the lender goes bankrupt?

Your loan doesn't disappear. It is usually sold or transferred to a new servicer, and your terms generally stay the same. Keep paying, watch for an official transfer notice, and confirm the new servicer's details independently before sending money to a new address.

How do I file a complaint about a solar lender?

File with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, and with your state attorney general. Companies must respond to CFPB complaints.

Do complaint counts mean a lender is bad?

Not by themselves. Bigger lenders get more complaints, and counts aren't adjusted for loan volume. Look at trends and the kinds of issues people report.
